Welcome to Black Student Success at UCR!
In collaboration with African Student Programs (ASP), the Black Student Success program is committed to addressing the needs, challenges, and aspirations of UCR's Black scholars (undergraduate and graduate), peers, and allies invested in knowledge of Black culture and history. We strive to remain mindful of program participants’ dynamic realities and unique experiences in all that we do. All programs and services offered are open to everyone, in accordance with state and federal law and the University of California's nondiscrimination policies. Whether it’s a student service, faculty initiative, or community event, each effort is designed to be accessible, inclusive and respectful of all identities.

What We Do
Black Student Success at UCR does the following:
- Ensures that Black scholars and all engaged scholars can fully access UCR’s comprehensive resources, including: professional development, social-cultural opportunities, and wellness services.
- Advocates for Black scholars and all program participants on all matters pertaining to their overall wellbeing and comprehensive college experience.
- Collaborates with key UCR staff and faculty to design and implement programming that utilizes the Anti-Deficit Framework to ensure the needs and aspirations of Black scholars and program participants are heard and addressed.
- Collects and analyzes critical data that will inform UCR on the challenge- points and areas of success that Black Scholars and all participants are encountering.
The Goals...
The goals for the collective set of actions taken by Black Student Success are to:
- Graduate Black scholars and the broader community of students engaging with Black culture and history, who are ready to serve as agents of change in their respective communities and society at large.
- Improve the 4-year and 6-year graduate rates for our Black scholars and all program participants at the undergraduate level.
- Bolster retention rates for Black scholars and all program participants at the undergraduate level.
- Cultivate a campus environment where Black scholars and all students engaging with Black culture and history can thrive academically and personally, in and outside of the classroom.
